The Primary Program - Grades One and Two
In grades one and two, children build on educational fundamentals while learning to think more critically about how the lessons they learn in school apply to their everyday lives. In reading and language arts, teachers focus on providing creative activities to enhance verbal and written communication skills. In addition, teachers use Accelerated Reader as a tool to advance reading levels and improve comprehension skills. Math, science and social studies concepts are creatively introduced through classroom instruction, individual activities and small group projects. Teachers work with students to develop positive study habits and problem-solving skills. Students also learn to enhance their knowledge and access information through age appropriate computer and library activities.
Religious instruction becomes more relevant and interesting for first and second graders as they learn about the Bible through stories that teach them valuable life lessons. Children participate in daily prayer and a weekly all-school mass. In the spring, second graders receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
